A note on API-backed account data
Dictate now uses one managed API path. Your settings, glossary entries, and transcript history sync through your Dictate account. Audio is sent to the API for transcription and discarded after the request completes; history stores the transcript and metadata needed to review past dictations.

Is there a free trial?
No. Dictate is $8/month from the start. Cancel any time and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for — but once you’ve used it, the purchase isn’t refundable.
How do I get the app after subscribing?
Subscribing sends you an email with the download link. Install Dictate, choose “Activate this Mac”, and enter the address you paid with — we email a link that activates the app on that machine.
Can I use Dictate on more than one Mac?
Yes. Activate each Mac with the same email address. Your monthly transcription allowance is shared across them.
Where are settings, glossary, and history stored?
They sync through the Dictate API so your account is the source of truth. Source audio is sent for transcription and discarded; history stores transcript text and metadata, not saved recordings.
Can I get a refund?
Only if you haven’t used it. Because there’s no free tier, your subscription starts the moment you pay — so if you’ve transcribed anything, the charge isn’t refundable. If you subscribed and never used it, email support@dictates.app. Full details on /refunds.
Is local-only mode possible?
No. The current build is API-only: transcription, settings, glossary entries, and transcript history all go through the Dictate API. On-device Whisper was retired.
